Jiri – Gokyo - Kalapatthar trek is a highly praised trekking route of Everest region and this trek is good for trekkers who have enough time to celebrate their holiday. This route is known as the old trekking route which two renowned Everest summiteers, Sir Edmund Hillary and Mr. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa took in 1953. The trek starts from Jiri after about an eight hours of scenic drive from Kathmandu which lies in the eastern part of Nepal. This trek is justifiably famous, not only for its proximity to the world’s highest mountain (Mount Everest 8848m) and numerous peaks and mountain lakes, but also for: its friendly Sherpa people; beautiful villages; great variety of cultures; colorful festivals and Buddhist monasteries. The flora and fauna are other attractions of the Sagarmatha National Park which was added to the list of world heritage sites in 1979. Himalayan wildlife commonly seen are mountain goat, musk deer, rare species of red panda and snow leopard. Another attraction of this region are common pine and birch trees and colorful rhododendron flowers especially in the spring. You don’t need any mountaineering experience for this trek, but some walking experience and good physical condition are required.
